Work begins at former barracks and airfield site
Work is underway on the first two parcels of land as part of a landmark development at Waterbeach Barracks near Cambridge.
These parcels are part of an ambitious 6,500-home redevelopment and Longhurst Group has been appointed as the affordable housing provider.
We were selected as developer Urban & Civic’s preferred RP partner through a competitive process and in consultation with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, who own the former barracks and airfield, with Urban & Civic as master developer.
Set in a rich landscape of inherited woodland around a 23-acre lake, the development will provide high quality homes with all the convenience of modern living.
Early stages of construction work have now started on two plots - Eastern Woods and Northern Woods - which will see us provide a total of 50 affordable homes across Affordable Rent, Shared Ownership and Right to Buy tenures.
The new homes will be handed over from early next year in a number of phases.
When complete, the entire development will also provide five new schools, retail, commercial and green space as well as new cycle connections and a sustainable travel hub.
