Mutual exchange process changes

A £250 payment previously required as part of the mutual exchange process has been scrapped.

We’ve made this change to make mutual exchanges cheaper and more attractive to customers who are considering moving home.

The money was previously used as a contribution towards the costs of the required compliance checks, including gas and electric inspections.

The changes came into effect from 1 April.

Lettings Manager Sarah Lowe said: “We recognised that this charge was becoming a barrier for some customers and we wanted to ensure that everyone who’s eligible for a mutual exchange was able to apply for a move through this route.

“A mutual exchange can be a quicker way of moving home compared to a choice-based lettings service and it can also provide customers with a wider choice of properties as HomeSwapper also covers other social housing providers and local authorities.”
