From Sheila in Rushden.
Thanks for getting in touch, Sheila. This is a common concern for all of us at this time of year as the temperatures drop and we make use of our central heating more than normal.
While this can prove to be expensive, there are lots of little ways you can help to keep your home as warm as possible without using the heating.
These include keeping all windows shut, closing curtains to keep warmth in and using hot water bottles at night.
Some people can also get help with their energy bills through a number of schemes such as the Winter Fuel Payment and the Warm Home Discount.
Our Money Advice Team can help you with budgeting to help you afford increased heating bills, look at whether you qualify for any of the support schemes on offer and see if you’re receiving all the income you’re entitled to. If you’re concerned about managing increased energy costs, we’d recommend giving them a call. They can be contacted on 0300 123 1745 and pressing option 2 for the Income Team. Just ask for the Money Advice Team and
you’ll be put through.
