Job search
Using a range of tactics can increase your chances of finding work. For more advice, you can contact the Employment Support Team on 0800 111 4013, or by filling out the form at the bottom of the page.
- Try different websites
As well as general job sites like Indeed, check out more specialised websites for your type of work – search everyjobsite.co.uk for your sector - Use agencies wisely
Instead of just uploading a CV to an agency’s website and hoping for the best, make contact with local branches and ask to speak with a consultant. Most agencies recruit for both temporary and permanent positions, so make it clear what type of work you’re looking for. See our tips for more information on recruitment agencies. - Make direct contact
Use online directories like yell.com and thomsonlocal.com to find local businesses that you can ring up to ask if they have any vacancies. - Use your network
Contact family, friends, former workmates etc. Let them know you’re looking for work, share ideas on how they found work and keep in regular touch with them. See our tips for more information on networking. - Try volunteering
This is a good way of keeping active, developing skills for your CV and making contacts for your network. See our tips for more information on voluntary work.
