How our Money Advice Team changed Mark’s life

“She gave me a light at the end of the tunnel and helped me above and beyond what she needed to. I love her to bits for it and I can’t thank her enough.”

Mark Wadsley, who lives at Friary Court in Peterborough, says his life has been transformed after working with our Money Advisor Angie Noble.

He’d previously been living off a meagre Universal Credit payment after being benefit-capped. That’s when Angie stepped in and worked with Mark to sort out his finances.

Mark said: “Money was non-existent. I had nothing to pay my bills with or to live on, so I was in dire straits.

“I didn’t know what to do. I’d moved in here but couldn’t afford anything so was facing having to move out.

“I had no idea what it meant by being benefit-capped – I wondered how they could cap me when I hardly received anything anyway.

“That’s when the manager put me in touch with Angie, and I can’t praise her enough.”

After securing Discretionary Housing Payment, the pair were successful with a Personal Independence Payment appeal, despite having to wait a year for the appeal to be heard.

This was successful and the payment was backdated a year, which meant Mark was no longer benefit-capped.

Man sat on a bench

Their help took the stress and panic out of my life. I’m immensely grateful.

In total, Angie’s support has meant Mark is now hundreds of pounds a month better off.

He added: “I was excited that I was getting some help because I needed it.

“Everywhere I’d turned before, I wasn’t getting any help. I had to use the food bank, which made me feel low as I don’t like to do that sort of thing.

“Once Angie got on board, things started to get brighter. It wasn’t a quick fix, but I knew something was happening which helped me to relax as my anxiety and depression had been getting worse until then.

“Previously, I was having to cancel appointments with the doctor and at the hospital as I couldn’t afford taxis to get to them.

“Now I’m more comfortable financially, I can afford a taxi to get me to and from the appointments, so that’s had a major impact on my health and wellbeing.”

Mark said working with Angie had been a turning point in his life and couldn’t praise her and the Money Advice Team enough.

He added: “Their help took the stress and panic out of my life.

“I’m immensely grateful for the help I’ve received, and I’d encourage others to reach out and ask for that help.

“I’d stand up and shout it from the rooftops – reach out and get the help. The Money Advisors are there for a reason and they’ll work with you to help you.”
