Enjoy the outdoors

To help you get out and about in nature, explore some of Alconbury Weald's walking routes. A series of wayfinding paths with signs are set up to help you navigate your preferred route or discover a new one!

Willow Route - 1.5 km

The Willow Route is all about well-being. Experience Alconbury Brook's soothing waters, the orchard-lined allotments, Swynford Park’s exercise areas including the Games Area and skate park, and return to the ponds on Carnaile Road.

Mindful Route - 1 km

This 1 km route along Scots Pine Way features mature pines, boulders, and steps. Enjoy a woodland walk, ideal for busy work-from-home days and as a circular path for school pick-ups.

Nature Route - 850 m

This route includes Scots Pine Way, Garland Park, and the large Lime trees on Swynford Road. These 55-year-old trees, weighing over 8.5 tonnes each, were planted using a 200-tonne crane.

Green Route - 550 m

And not forgetting the Green Route which allows you to explore some of the “Bee-roads”, providing pollen for our bees and supporting the wider insect population.

Alconbury Weald is based in Huntingdon, a market town in Cambridgeshire, with great connections to Peterborough and London. Away from the cities yet close enough to commute, you have the best of both worlds.

Rich in history

Alconbury Weald is also rich in history, going back many centuries, with evidence of prehistoric settlements and Roman use along the historic Ermine Street route. It also played a significant role in more recent history, serving as a military site during the Second World War and the Cold War. Experience nature and history together.

I Spy - This is the well-known classic, starting with "I spy with my little eye something beginning with ..." You can make it more difficult by adding rules such as only naming bird species.

Name that tune - Hum or whistle your favourite tune and make everyone else guess.

20 questions - Hide something you've found during your walk in your hand. Everyone else has up to 20 questions to guess what you've got.
