Black Lives Matter – our statement
25 June 2020
Black Lives Matter.
Three simple words. Three simple words that shouldn’t need to be said, but they do.
It’s a damning indictment of our society that these words and this movement remain necessary and that racism still exists.
The graphic and harrowing results of this persecution have been all too evident in recent weeks with the sickening killing of George Floyd providing a shocking representation of how racism remains in plain sight.
The Black Lives Matter movement continues to inspire a global focus on difficult and challenging conversations about institutionalised prejudices faced by people from the BAME community.
The thousands of people who’ve taken to the streets in protest have done so under the conviction that when Black Lives Matter - All lives matter.
This has forced us all to think about the long standing and malicious effect of racism, understand our collective history and to stand shoulder to shoulder to deliver real change and justice.
As a human race, we have a responsibility to ourselves, our children and our children’s children to ensure that this moment delivers change.
At Longhurst Group, we recognise our responsibility to help influence and drive this change, to ensure that we are an inclusive organisation that embraces and celebrates diversity.
We all have a part to play. Change must follow.
We are stronger together.
Our Director of Community Investment, Charmaine Simei has recorded this video in which she discusses her experience and reflects on the Black Lives Matter movement.
