Floating Support Service helps single mum of two set up a new life for her family

“Me and my two little ones shall forever be grateful.”
Our Floating Support Service can change lives, and that’s what it’s done for one service user in Grimsby.
A mum of two – who wants to remain anonymous – has been working with our Housing Support Worker Di Freer since July 2023 intending to provide her family with a better life.
Originally from Gambia, the woman had previously worked in accountancy in her homeland. However, after moving to this country with her two young children, she’s needed support to get back on her feet.
Di introduced the lady to Centre4 – a local community hub which offers support to people - and has helped her set up a home by securing donations of furniture, household items and clothes and toys for the children, as well as supporting her in setting up direct debits, paying bills, arranging job centre appointments and applying for work.
She’s even helped the service user to enrol at a local university to update her accountancy qualifications to help her find relevant employment.
I wish I could say more than ‘thank you Di’, but me and my two little ones shall forever be grateful.
The service user said: “I’ve benefited a lot from the support Di has given me. She’s picked me up from scratch to get me to where I am today.
“I knew nobody around me when I moved in here and I needed support to settle down as a single mum with two children.
“Di introducing me to Centre4, where I registered with a community shop and can buy things for reasonable prices has been a big help.
“She’s also helped me register with a nearby GP and, because I wanted to get into employment, she helped me gather application forms.
“I was able to gain employment through her support as she introduced me to an employment agency at Centre4 and they helped me get my current job as an accounts assistant.
“I’m now better off and can look after me and my kids easier.
“Di's support for me has been immensely helpful and contributed a lot to my physical and mental wellbeing.
“I wish I could say more than ‘thank you Di’, but me and my two little ones shall forever be grateful.
“Thank you so much for being there for us all the while.”
