Longhurst Group colleague Carina shares her experience of being an unpaid carer for her mum
10 June 2021
“There were a lot of challenging days.”
Those are the words of Longhurst Group colleague, Carina Monnelly-Owen, when recalling her experiences of being a carer for her mum.
Carina’s mum Betty had a variety of health conditions, leaving Carina trying to balance work, caring for her mum and looking after her own children.
Carina said: “I remember sitting in a meeting in Nottingham with my manager and for a very long time I’d kept how I was feeling to myself. I just cried and cried and my boss just listened.
It was at that time I realised I wasn’t alone going through this. Yes mum was my focus, but I needed some support too.”
