Twelve new affordable homes are set to be built on the site of our former offices in Walsall.
Walsall Council’s planning committee approved plans for the two-bedroom homes on the Beechdale estate, subject to conditions being finalised by council officers.
The site, which was the former site of our neighbourhood office on the estate having previously been the Three Men in a Boat pub, will be transformed into the much-needed affordable housing.
Nick Worboys, Director of Development and Sales, said: “The site has been redundant for a number of years since it was vacated in 2015 and we’ve been committed to regenerating the area ever since we relocated our offices.
“There is demand for affordable housing in this area, so we’re pleased that we’re going to be able to provide the type of housing people want in the areas it is needed, in line with our Improving Lives strategy.
“I’m confident that these houses will prove popular with those who move into them and represents an innovative solution to a derelict site in the heart of the community.
“We also believe that by developing this site we will take away any potential anti-social behaviour issues associated with it.
“Our Community Investment Team will also continue to work on community engagement in relation to this development and I’m looking forward to seeing the progress on this site over the next few months.”
It’s hoped that we’ll be on site to begin demolition in October, with construction planned to be completed by November next year.
Where possible, it’s hoped that local labour and supply chains will be used throughout the development.
