Longhurst Group to be a sponsor of Louth Run for Life 2020

A charity fun run will benefit to the tune of hundreds of pounds after Longhurst Group pledged to become a sponsor of the event.
The Louth Run for Life is an annual event that raises tens of thousands of pounds for Cancer Research.
Anti-social Behaviour Assistant Kerry Foster originally helped launch the event before stepping back to allow a committee to oversee the event’s growth.
For the 2020 event – which involves a 5km run for men, a 5km course for women and 1km race for children through the picturesque Lincolnshire town of Louth – we have pledged to support the cause to demonstrate our commitment to improving lives.
Kerry said: “When I was an active member of the Louth Athletic Club in the early 2000s, I spoke to the then chairman and we discussed the Race for Life and if we could hold our own one – as by doing that we could incorporate both men and women into it as men get breast cancer too.
“The idea was discussed time and time again and this just snowballed. Louth Athletic Club hosted the first Run for Life in 2006.
“The event is extremely popular, it surprises me each year how busy it is on race day. We have people coming from all over Lincolnshire and further afield, we have teams from local primary schools and even residents from local residential homes taking part in their wheelchairs with family and carers pushing them round the course.
“Over the last 14 years we have raised a total of £460,000, including £54,000 last year alone. We are looking to break the half-a-million pound barrier this year with about 1,500 people taking part.
“It is brilliant that we are getting behind this.
“We are all trying to improve the lives of our customers and in line with our Improving Lives 2025 vision, I believe that by working together on this event we will help so many people improve their emotional wellbeing, as people are getting out and about in the fresh air.
“This will help them get healthier, not just in body but in mind.
“The donation will help us by contributing towards the cost of items like first aid, road closures and banners to advertise the day which we will re-use, ensuring that all monies raised by the participants goes towards Cancer Research UK.”
Lynn Stubbs, Executive Director for People and Performance, said she hoped the donation would help organisers continue their excellent work.
Having recently launched our Improving Lives 2025 strategy, being able to support events such as this really demonstrates our commitment to improving lives and helping people to improve their health and wellbeing.
She said: “We are delighted to be able to become a sponsor of the Louth Run for Life and wish the organisers good luck for the event.

“As a Group, we like to try and support certain fundraising activities that align with our vision and we are really pleased to be able to make this donation to yet another wonderful cause.
“I would like to wish everybody who takes part the very best of luck and say thank you for doing your bit to help tackle cancer.”
