Regeneration of Grimsby neighbourhood enters final stage

WORK on the final phase of a £7-million social housing project in Grimsby has begun, with the construction of the remaining 19 social rented homes.

The 70-unit project, which has seen a huge joint investment by Longhurst Group, North East Lincolnshire Council and the Homes & Communities Agency, follows the demolition of 100 properties on Guildford Street, which were over a century old and in poor condition.

Ian Jackson, Executive Director of Portfolio Investment at Longhurst Group, said: “We’ve been committed to this area for a long time, so to see the regeneration of Guildford Street nearing completion is very satisfying.

“Longhurst Group has a clearly defined strategy to deliver more than 3,000 homes over five years and play our part in fixing the broken housing market.

“This type of development of high-quality, affordable homes will really make a difference to the area and the people living here.

“As one of the leading housing groups in the Midlands, everything we do is about improving lives and communities and Guildford Street will certainly do that.”

Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for housing at North East Lincolnshire Council, added: “This project is great for the local area. These works will see the creation of a substantial number of affordable, sustainable houses for future generations.

“The completed phases of this project have already been shown to foster an improved sense of community, and have replaced some old houses that were in very poor condition with much more family-friendly homes.

“The Council has a good strong partnership with Longhurst Group, and without their investment, this project might never have happened.”

The works are expected to be completed by March 2018.
