Grounds maintenance
What can you expect from your grounds maintenance service?
During the spring/summer season (March to October), your contractors will be on site on 18 occasions. In the winter season (November to February), operatives will make four visits.
Below is a full rundown of what our contractors cover as part of the service, and how often they'll be on-site to work.

Climbing plantsIvy plants and other invasive climbing plants will be cut at root and treated to prevent regrowth. All other climbing plants will be trained or pruned as necessary throughout the year. |

Grass cutting and edging
All grassed areas will be cut, with clippings being mulched and the lawn edges trimmed. The lawn edges will be reformed during the winter period. |

Grassed areas — weed treatmentAll grassed areas will be treated for weeds once each year during the month of May. |

Leaf and debris collectionAll handstanding areas will be swept clear of leaves and debris during scheduled visits with all waste being removed. |

Litter pickingAll areas should be cleared of litter on each visit, with any waste being removed. |

Maintenance of communal flower bedsWeeds will be removed manually or by a chemical application. The soil will be cultivated (soil prepared and turned over), and any litter will be removed. Perennial plants will be maintained as necessary. This will be done on a regular basis but not every visit. Areas that have been planted by residents will be excluded. |

Pruning — large hedgesDuring the winter period, all large hedges will be hard pruned, with all debris being cleared from their bases and left tidy. |

Pruning — shrubsDuring May to July, all shrubs will be pruned every six weeks, with all litter and debris being cleared from their base. During the winter period, a further hard prune will be carried out. |

Pruning — small hedgesDuring May to July, all hedges will be pruned every six weeks, with all litter and debris being cleared from their base. This should equate to one third of the total required pruning being completed on each visit. During the winter period, a further hard prune will be carried out. |

Pruning — tree branchesLight pruning that can be done from the ground level will be carried out. Other required works that can’t be completed will be reported and completed by specialists, where appropriate. |

HardstandingsAny hardstanding areas owned by Longhurst Group, such as roads and pathways, will be swept and treated, with all debris removed. |

Weed controlAll hardstandings, flower beds and shrub areas will either be manually weeded or chemically treated for weeds. |

Woodland areasWhere there is grass, this will be cut at least once per year. Litter and debris will be removed as part of a general tidy up of the area. Any additional required works will be reported. |
